The Australian cyber-activist had infuriated the United States in 2010 by publishing hundreds of thousands of classified documents about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also confidential diplomatic messages that have embarrassed the governments around the world.

New documents released on Monday on its website cover the period 1973-1976. But unlike those of 2010, they do not fall under leaks and are available on the U.S. National Archives. They include a number of messages sent or received by the U.S. Secretary of State at the time, Henry Kissinger.

Julian Assange has taken refuge in the Embassy of Ecuador in London to avoid extradition to Sweden.

Ecuador has granted  him political asylum but London intends to apply the Swedish arrest warrant.
