WEEC 2013: Marrakech Declaration Calls for stepping up support for environmental education projects
Marrakech - Participants at the 7th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC 2013) which wrapped up Thursday in Marrakech, called on governments, international organizations and donors to step up support for environmental education projects.

Participants at this conference, which was crowned by the adoption of the "Declaration of Marrakech", called for recognizing the contribution of civil society in environmental education, strengthening its role in this field, and encouraging consultation and coordination between all stakeholders for a better synergy in defining strategies and implementing projects.
They also called for setting up networks of actors of environmental education to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, expertise, experience and best practices, to promote the inclusion of territorial specificities, the mobilization local actors in development efforts, and the implementation of environmental education projects that focus on the respect for nature, the values of eco-citizenship and solidarity.
The Marrakech Declaration also focused on the development of innovative and more appealing tools and teaching materials, while continuing the development of conventional methods.
The WEEC-2013, an event held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI and the chairmanship of HRH Princess Lalla Hasna, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, was attended by some 2,000 participants from more than 100 countries.
The opening session of this Congress was marked by a royal message to the participants and which was read by HRH Princess Lalla Hasna.
The conference, which was held under the theme "Environmental Education in Cities and Rural Areas: Seeking Greater Harmony", discussed a number of issues relating mainly to "promoting environment education"," intercultural dialogue "," social movements and building green societies ", and "communications and the impact of social media ."
