Vivendi's Maroc Telecom sale attracts four potential buyers

Vivendi has received four expressions of interest in its 53 percent stake in Maroc Telecom from which it hopes to garner at least 5.5 billion euros ($7.13 billion),according to Reuters.

Qatar Telecom,the UAE's Etisalat,Saudi Telecom and South Africa's MTN have all declared an interest reported The Financial Times adding that Qatar's Q Tel seemed likely to succeed because of its strong position.  The moroccan government will retain 30 percent of MarocTelecom and wouldneedtoapprove any deal.

Vivendi, for its part, "hopes to conclude the sale of its shares in the first operator in Morocco by the end of the first quarter of next year."

Maroc Telecom is the largest company listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange by market capitalisation.It offers fixed-line, mobile and internet services. It is one of Africa's main telecom operators with units in Burkina Faso, Gabon, Mali and Mauritania.
