Paris - Morocco's policy on the Sahel is multifaceted, unlike the one led by Algeria, which focuses solely on the security aspect, notes weekly Magazine "Jeune Afrique" in its latest issue.

In an article entitled "From Laayoune to Timbuktu," the editor of the magazine, François Sudan deems that the Moroccan commitment in the Sahel region focuses on the social, political, spiritual and military aspects.

On the military side, says the author of the article, Rabat's support for Mali goes beyond the diplomatic gesture, noting that "Morocco has stepped up its training programs in military schools of army executives of several countries in the region."

Regarding the spiritual component, "Jeune Afrique" notes that in the volatile context of radical Islamism in West Africa, " the Sufi Maliki Islam promoted by Morocco is a real counterweight and a force of influence."

On the social front, Soudan believes that the extreme poverty in the Sahel is one of the leading causes of extremism, noting that Moroccan cooperation has invested a lot in food and health projects.

On the political side, the magazine indicates that the inclusion of Morocco in the crisis in the Sahel, especially in Mali, is based on a long-term policy desired by all stakeholders, including France and the United States.
