UfM 'firmly committed to any attempt to accelerate regional integration in Maghreb', Sijilmassi

Madrid - The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM ) is "firmly committed to any attempt to accelerate regional integration in the Maghreb, which is still too low compared to the potential offered," said UfM Secretary General Fathallah Sijilmassi.

In this integration process, companies have "intended to play a central role," said Sijilmassi at a meeting organized in Madrid on Friday, by the Confederation of Organizations of Spanish companies (CEOE), which aims is to provide operational monitoring of the first economic Forum of the Western Mediterranean "5 +5 Dialogue", which was held on October 23 in Barcelona.

The meeting brought together a number of Spanish businesses which aspire to deepen their partnerships with the countries of the Southern Mediterranean. In addition to Sijilmassi, the meeting was co-chaired by the Spanish secretary of state for foreign affairs and cooperation, Gonzalo de Benito, and CEOE vice-president, Juan Lazcano, with the presence of president of European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), Senen Florensa, and CEO of "Casa Mediterraneo", Almudena Munoz.

UfM Secretary General recalled that a meeting of the Maghreb employers' associations will take place on February 17-18 in Marrakech at the initiative of the General Confederation of Moroccan Businesses (CGEM), which holds the current presidency of the Maghreb Union of Employers (UME), adding that the UfM has strongly supported this event, which aims to strengthen relations among the Maghreb business leaders.
