US pundit urges Algeria to show good faith' in support of realistic solution to Sahara issue

Washington - Algeria should have better supported in good faith the UN process aiming to find a political, lasting, realistic and mutually acceptable settlement to the Sahara issue, US expert in legal issues Jordan Paul said on Monday.

Jordan statement was made to MAP as a comment on the desperate speech by Algerian Abdelmalek Sellal on Sunday before the 25th African Union summit in Johanesburg.

Jordan, who highlighted the UN's multiple calls on the parties to negotiate with a view to finding a realistic solution to the Sahara issue, stressed the willingness shown by Morocco to work towards achieving a solution based on the autonomy proposal under its sovereignty.

The US pundit drew attention to the pertinence of the conclusions submitted by the former UN Personal Envoy, Peter Van Walsum who underscored that the parties supporting the polisario are contented with the status quo at the expense of the suffering of the people held in Tindouf camps.
