UNSC lauds anew Moroccan human rights efforts

New York (UN) - The UN Security Council lauded anew on Tuesday efforts by Morocco in the human rights field, mainly through the National Council for Human rights (CNDH).

In its resolution 2152, unanimously adopted by the fifteen member states, the UNSC recognized and commended the recent measures and initiatives taken by Morocco to reinforce CNDH regional committees in Dakhla and Laayoune.

The member states hailed the Kingdom's interactions with UNHRC special procedures, including those programmed in 2014, said the resolution which extends for one year the mandate of the MINURSO until April 30, 2015.

In this resolution, the UNSC reiterated the call for taking a census of the Tindouf camps populations in Algeria and called for further efforts in this area.

This demand was also included in the latest report on the Sahara by UNSG Ban Ki-moon, submitted early April to the UNSC.
