"The radio has increasingly become the most influential, open, and pluralistic medium in the world. It often offers a space for reflection and sharing," said Azoulay, on the occasion of the celebration on Thursday at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris of World Radio Day (February 13).

"Radio, with the most sophisticated and the most advanced technology, should provide listeners with a space for reflection," he said in a statement posted on the UNESCO website site.

UNESCO's celebration of World Radio Day aims to improve international cooperation among broadcasters, and encourage large networks and community radio stations to promote access to information, freedom of expression, and gender equality.
