Vendredi 2 Octobre 2015

Geneva - The UN human rights council adopted on Friday a draft resolution on prevention and fight of violent extremism, presented by a group of countries, including Morocco.
The text, the first to be approved by 37 votes (7 abstentions) was jointly presented by the USA, France, Turkey, Tunisia, Iraq, Mali, Morocco and other countries.

The diversity of countries that sponsored the text shows that the fight against extremism requires "a collective humanist commitment that goes beyond borders, regions and civilizations", said Morocco's permanent ambassador to the UN offices in Geneva, Mohamed Aujjar, while presenting the project.

Morocco also insists on the need for global efforts of international cooperation to prevent and fight against extremism while respecting human rights, noted the ambassador who recalled that the Rabat work plan is a pertinent choice to mobilize societies in awareness-promotion, education and information on risks of spreading hate messages.

The ambassadors of Morocco, Turkey, the USA and Albania have launched on this occasion a call for international engagement to eradicate factors of extremism.

"We wanted to get involved to this trans-regional initiative which brings together 12 countries from 4 continents in order to convey a clear message of unity and urge for international efforts in the fight against violent extremism", said the Moroccan diplomat who also pointed out that this initiative is launched concurrently with a high-level meeting in New York on the same issue.
