UK reaffirms its commitment to strong relations with Morocco

The visit to London this week by a Moroccan high-level delegation "confirms our strong relationships and our shared aspiration for a peaceful and prosperousNorth Africa," British Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement.

The Moroccan high-level delegation, sent by King Mohammed VI, visited last Monday in London, where it held a working meeting with Mr Hague.

The delegation was composed of Mr Taib Fassi Fihri, Advisor to the King,Mr  Saad El Dine Otmani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Mr Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, Director General of Studies and Documentation.

"We have agreed to initiate a series of strategic and regular exchanges on foreign policy issues," said Mr Hague.

The head of British diplomacy has also indicated that it seized the opportunity of meeting with the Moroccan delegation to reiterate the support of the United Kingdom to the progress made by Morocco on the  implementation of the new Constitution , particularly in strengthening the protection of human rights and democratic reform.

He added that the working meeting with the Moroccan delegation was also an opportunity to discuss a number of regional issues on which the two countries work together as members of the Security Council, including the situation in Mali.

"I welcomed the support provided by Morocco in efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria through the work of the Kingdom in the Security Council and the holding of the Conference of Friends of the Syrian people in 2012 in Marrakech Mr. Hague said.

The two sides also reviewed the efforts to expand economic relations between the two kingdoms, said the British official, who said he was confident that economic cooperation between the two countries remain an important part of bilateral relations continue to grow.
