Tunisian UGTT strike averted after deal with government

The agreement, signed in the presence of union and government delegations, stated that the Government pledges to guarantee and defend the right to political, associative and union action and reject violence whatever its causes and origins, TAP reports
 
The government denounces the 4 December attack that  targeted the UGTT, i ts activists and employees.A joint government UGTT commission will investigate the violence at the UGTT headquarters on4 December and the involvement of  some  Ennhada backed committees for the protection of the revolution in acts of violence. The commission will report to the Prime Minister who has promised that legal action will be taken against those involved in the attack.

There have been serious riots at Silania and other towns accussing th government of doing too little to alleviate unemployment and the failure to invest in deprived areas where little is said to have changed since the revolution. The UGTT supported these demonstrations. Although both sides have backed backed away from violence the causs of the disturbances remain in being and political uncertainty is also a destabalising factor. A spokesman  for the CPR Party said earlier in the week that it would withdraw from the governing coalition. Interim
President Moncef Marzouki may also be affected by a rumoured cabinet reshuffle.

There have been a number of accusations of violence by Ennhada supported committees for the protection of the revolution increasing the insecurity in the country.
