Tunisia - needs 2 billion dinars to accelerate development projects

Tunisia needs more than two billion dinars to accelerate the achievement of regional development projects, including the protection of cities against floods, the development of electricity grids and natural gas, further consolidation of the system vocational training, Riadh Bettaieb, minister of investment and international cooperation announced,TAP reports.

"Tunisia aims to raise urgent funds for projects to create new jobs and boost the pace of regional development," said the minister, during a meeting held on Friday, with Arab and Muslims donor countries.

Specifically, it is to fund the project for the mobilization of water resources from the right bank of the Oued Medjerda protect cities against floods, a cost estimated at 790 million dinars in the cities of Bousalem (Jendouba ) and Medjez el-Bab (Beja) and the construction of a water tank in the town of Kalaa Kebira (Sousse).

The government also aims to build an electricity generating plant in Sousse, a cost that amounts to 600 million dinars and the extension of the natural gas system over a length of 1713 km, with investments of around 832 million dinars, of  which 130 million dinars scheduled for 2012.

Participated in this meeting, representatives from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development ( KFAED), the OPEC Fund and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).

During their presentations, the participants asked for updated versions of technical studies and feasibility studies in Arabic and English, urging the government to identify a list of priority projects to allow them to take appropriate  decisions.
