Tunisia arrests Salafist suspects over Sufi shrine attack
Tunisian authorities arrested five Salafist suspects on Monday in connection with an arson attack against one of the country’s main Sufi shrines,the Saida Manoubia zawiya located in the western La Manouba suburb of Tunis on 16 October the interior ministry said, AFP reported.

There has been widspread concern expressed about attacks against Sufi shrines, notonly inTunisia but in Libya
and mali where a number of shrines and sites have been destroyed in the ancient city of Timbuktu.
Since the Tunisian revolution ended many salafists have been accused of armed violence and intimidation in Tunisia against women,artists and secular society including Manouba university. Following the attack on the United States Embassy the Troika and government spokesman finally condemned salafist violence. Secular society and parties like Nida Tounes had accused the Ennhada led government of not enforcing the law against salafistsfor armed violence on many occasions.These arrests will go some way to reassuring secular society that action is being taken against the violent acts of islamist extremists.
In another unrelated violent incident islamist supporters of Ennhada attacked members of the General Tunisian Workers' Union (UGTT) in the capital, Tunis, with knives and sticks, after protests against unemployment in Siliana, eyewitnesses told Reuters.
The Islamists, thought to belong to the League for Protection of the Revolution, blamed union leaders for inciting anti-government unrest.The UGTT had called for stikes last week over unemployment.
