Tunisia: an unemployed youth sets fire to himself in Sidi Bouzid
An Unemployed youth was seriously injured on Sunday when he set fire to himself in  the city of Sidi Bouzid, where Mohammed Bouazizi sparked the revolution against the Ben Ali government in 2011.,  Gravely wounded, Slimani Brahim, 23, was transferred to the local hospital, where doctors found third degree burns over three-quarters of his body. The young man said nothing before the suicide attempt, witnesses said, but a relative said he was "fed up with unemployment and poverty."

Sidi Bouzid and the other neglected industrial regions in the central provinces of Tunisia have seen no improvement in their living conditions and there have been a number of serious riots particularly in Sliliana. This continues to undermine Tunisia and interim President Moncef Marzouki spoke recently of a danger of revolution because of unemployment and poverty.

Unemployment affects about 700,000 including 170,000 young graduates, while two of the ten million Tunisian  population are afflicted by extreme poverty. There have been a number of cases of self immolation due to desperation over unemployment.
