Tunisia: Salafist Violence-enough is enough!
"On the Tunisian Stage, one can accept that some Salafist groups adopt a different social approach, but the   excesses of other   by groups trying to change Tunisian's lifestyle are intolerable, "said  Ali Laaraiedh Minister of the Interior as reported in the daily newspaper  La Presse.

Responding to the widely expressed fears of the Tunisian population the Minister said that state of emergency gives security forces wide powers, including the use of all forms of specific interventions to ensure order and in the cases where police stations are attacked police have the right to respond with live ammunition, he warned.

the President and the President of the Constituent Assembly have approved a set of plans and security measures dawn up in conjunction with senior  police officers.

The minister  noted that "the shaking of the democratic transition has highlighted the qualities and defects of the Tunisians." He added: "Despite all the difficulties I hoped that the Tunisians will focus on their right to democracy and freedom."

Several ominous movements hamper the smooth functioning of democratic transition and particularly social peace. For this purpose, the minister said that the individual or collective violence, criminal, political or other is a real public danger."But organized violence remains one of the gravest threats," he noted. He added "whatever forms of violence, the qualifier is unique: it is a common crime."

"The patience of Tunisians is at an end. We will not sit by with our arms crossed. We will be on the ground applying the law," Prime Miniister Hamadi  Jebali said in a television interview on Wednesday.

The government has been widely criticised for being too timid in the face of armed Salafist aggression by a minority  which is estimated to be baout 10,000 strong in a population of over 10 million.

Prime Minister Jebali said "It is imperative that these incidents be ended and a firm approach be taken to those who believe they are charged by God to purify society." reported AFP.
