Tunisia Public sector wage rise.

Negotiations initiated in early August between government and the General Union of Tunisian Workers (UGTT) culminated in the conclusion, yesterday, Wednesday, Aug. 15, of a Memorandum of Understanding on increasing salaries of State and public sector employees for the year 2012.

Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, with some of his ministers and Hassine Abbasi, general secretary of the UGTT,and leading members of the executive of the trade union met at the Government Palace at the Kasbah,  La Presse the daily newspaper reported.

A memorandum of agreement was concluded  in two parts regarding the civil service and business and public enterprises. The increase of 70 dinars will be paid in two tranches. Not included in the agreement are  university teachers,doctors, pharmacists and dentists within the public health service for whom negotiations are continuing.

The agreement shows the positive relations that have been developed  between the government and the  UGTT and Prime Minister's Hamadi Jebali's presence at the signing of the agreement shows the priority given to the negotiations. The successful outcome is an achievement in a tumultuous period.
