Received by the Prime Minister, the democratic MPs including Maya Jeribi, Issam Chebbi and Salma Mabrouk, expressed concern over the  serious deterioration of the health of Sami Fehri, who has been on a hunger strike in protest against his detention,TAP reported.

"The medical report  on December 28, confirmed that Sami Fehri's health status is critical and risks deteriorating further," they specified.

They also launched "a call to activists and Human rights advocates to intensify their actions and multiply the forms of pressure, so as to lift this injustice before it is too late."The meeting was attended by the Justice and Interior Ministers.

Fehri has been detained for over three months after being accused of corruption for his association with
Belhassen Trabelsi, the brother-in-law of former president Zined  el-Abidine Ben Ali. Fehri was accused of the misappropriating of national television resources for Cactus Productions company, which Fehri co-owned with Trabelsi.

But on November 28, the Court of Appeals rejected the accusations of corruption against the TV producer and returned his case to another indictment chamber. In the meantime, Fehri’s lawyers have maintained that their defendant ought to have been released following the court’s decision.

At the time of  his arrest in August Sami Fehri, director of Tunisian channel  Ettounissya said that his arrest was because of a satirical TV programme that  caste members of the Enhhada led government as puppets. His case is seen by many as part of an attackonfreedomofthe Press in Tunisia by the Ennhada led government.
