Trial for genocide against "Polisario" in Spain puts end to impunity for torturers, victims' lawyer
Jerez de la Frontera - The complaint filed in Spain against the leaders of the "Polisario" for "genocide and grave violations of human rights in Tindouf" puts an end to impunity for torturers, said the victims' lawyer, Jose Manuel Romero.

The decision of the Spanish Court to accept the complaint filed on December 14, 2007 by Sahrawi victims against "Polisario" leaders and Algerian security and army officers was a "serious blow" to the separatists, and puts an end to decades of impunity, said Romero in an interview with MAP- Madrid during a statement given last week by the first victims before the National Court, the highest Spanish criminal court.
The summoning of the first victims of the violations committed by the "Polisario", namely Dahi Aguai, president of the association of missing persons and himself a victim of the Polisario abuses, and Saâdani Malainine, daughter of the late El Wali Seikh Slama and former deportee to Cuba at the age of 5 years, confirms that the Spanish Court takes this case seriously to render justice to the victims, he noted.
In their poignant stories, the victims described the ordeal they lived in the Tindouf camps and the worst suffering they underwent under the orders of the Polisario and their accomplices, the lawyer said, adding that Aguai and Saâdani recounted in details the inhumane conditions in which they were subjected to in the camps of Tindouf.
The decision of the National Court, which had ruled in the past on trials for Chile, Honduras and Argentina, aims to establish the facts and responsibilities of persons implicated in the violations, said Mr. Romero, making note that this is a "decisive step to shed light on these serious violations" committed since 1979 in the Tindouf camps.
