Towards Creation of Museums in Guelmim-Oued Noun Region and in City of Laâyoune

Rabat - The National Museums Foundation (FNM) announced on Sunday the upcoming creation of museums in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region and in the city of Laâyoune, an initiative that is part of the efforts aimed at enhancing, safeguarding and promoting the tangible and intangible heritage of the southern provinces. This initiative was announced by the FNM following a meeting which took place on Saturday between the president of the Regional Council of Guelmim-Oued Noun Mbarka Bouaida, president of the FNM Mehdi Qotbi, the secretary general of the FNM Lakhlifa Dahmani, and the director of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art El Idrissi Abdelaziz.

A press release from the FNM said that the two parties, aware of the major role of culture for the development of society, and as part of the enhancement of regional and national museum heritage, met to jointly develop a roadmap to identify, preserve and enhance the tangible and intangible heritage of the southern provinces, based on total synergy between the three southern regions, namely Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Dahab, and in line with the model of sustainable development as desired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. During this meeting, and after a presentation of the various assets of the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun, its archaeological, artistic, cultural and historical heritage as a gateway to the Sahara and a crossroads of multiple civilizations, the two parties agreed to start joint and collective actions for the creation of a museum in the region of Guelmim Oued Noun and to support in parallel the efforts of the FNM for the setting up of another museum in Laâyoune.
