This pathological fear of freedom

Lundi 6 Août 2012

In many areas, it seems to work backwards. Actually, we also come to see the disadvantages and shortcomings of the spontaneous, unorganized revolution. The period of euphoria has passed and all political forces are trying to seize power.
This pathological fear of freedom
The issue of media and press freedom is symptomatic in this regard. Just before yesterday, members of the Constituent Assembly warned against a constitution restricting the freedoms of opinion, expression and creation.

Again, the paradox is that the dead seizes the quick.  It was observed in the debates on the press of passages of arms between the parliamentary groups. Basically, the components of the Troika-government movement Ennahdha bonus, argue in favour of relative freedom, restricted by moral and religious considerations. In front, it promotes complete freedom, no leash, subject to sanctions after the event in case of  abreach of ethical imperatives or injury to persons.

It was observed also in the willingness of constituents nahdhaouis and others to present a bill sanctioning the violation of the sacred. And under the sacred, it has, among others, the sunna. However, it is indeed an evolving concept and fuzzy, controversial and highly controversial over the centuries in Muslim communities.

Yet the law is inherently impersonal and general. And proof of the offence is, by definition, restrictive. The way of interpretation, the gloss and exegesis  should benefit  the suspect.

At the same time, the same components appear in place of press freedom and creating an undisguised suspicion. They gladly proclaim the fear of freedom. A virtually pathological fear or guilt.

It is unclear how a revolution based on the values of freedom and dignity came to grow  a sickly suspicion of freedom. Only the secret designs of those who are afraid justify their apparent fear of freedom, if not their uncontrollable twitching face.

Again, the religious and civil conflict. The fundamental characteristic of Ennahdha is to be a political party but with a repository  which is essentially religious. While that movement does not monopolize Islam. But Islam, however, accounts for the purpose of this movement. And a certain reading of the freedom that the followers of Ennahdha distrust at first. A reading that is to say an interpretation and bias.

That Islam is the fundamental component of the Tunisian identity, no doubt. But the Islamic corpus itself demonstrates the propensity of Muslims to embrace the values of freedom throughout the ages. During the most illustrious of the Muslim civilization, seven centuries, have been synonymous with creative freedom and innovation. And decadence of the Arabs and Muslims began the day it was notified of the freedom to slaughter.
Today, some want to turn the tables. The freedom would be the pretext for them to plunge into a new Middle Ages, dark, bathing with the sacred gargoyles of ignorance. Sacred violence is precisely solicited on behalf of this sacred ignorance.

The Tunisian Constituent Assembly must give a strong signal. Clear and  sharp . Freedom of press, expression and creation is the beginning and the end. The new constitution is expected to serve it formally and unambiguously. Otherwise, the constitutional carelessness in this regard would be the royal road of the counter revolution. That is to say the new open despotism.
