The warning by Christopher Ross

The UN mediator who toured the country in the region affected by the conflict in Western Sahara: Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania, in fact, echoed the same warning issued by the spokesperson of the Secretary-General of the UN in New York A few days earlier. The two warnings occurred at a time when Morocco strengthened control of its southern border to prevent infiltration of jihadists fleeing the fighting in Mali.

Under the blows of the French  and Chadian armies,in  Mali  claiming the nebulous Al Qaeda fleeing the country by the dozen from the desert of northern Mali. Among them are many fighters of the Polisario front fighting from Algerian territory for the independence of the Western Sahara region. At this stage, the alarm driven by Christopher Ross is an an echo of America's own fears in Washington about what is happening in the region. The United States is indeed very concerned about the proliferation of jihadist operations in the region. The bloody episode at In Amenas in Algeria has signalled a qualitative transformation. Washington is convinced that the Algerian DRS has no control over some jihadist groups it handled itself in the past and who are empowered since.

Now, the U.S. government fears that terroristsare gaining courage and attack strategic sites of oil and raw material extraction in the countries of the region. A scenario where the entire Sahel-Saharan zone is plunged into a situation of chronic instability that would escape control.
