The President of Niger receives British PM's Security adviser.

The President of the Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou, yesterday received a delegation led by Major General Robin Searby (retd), Special Adviser to the British Prime Minister on the fight against terrorism. British Ambassador to Niger, Nicholas Griffiths was also part of the delegation.

General Searby said he is leading a delegation of experts in the fight against terrorism and that this audience with the Head of State has allowed them to better understand the challenges facing the country and are not uniquely to do with security.

The United Kingdom, he said, is particularly impressed by the commitment of Niger to fight against terrorism. The purpose of this visit is to strengthen cooperation between our two countries and explore areas where we can make our contribution to strengthen the capacity of the country. Also, we were impressed by the clear vision of the President of the Republic who told us the important areas where we can register our support''.


In October 2011 General Searby co chaired the annaual Algerian British Security Contact Group in Algiers and warned of the dangers posed by the circulation of heavy duty weapons from Libya for the Sahel and the concern that they might fall into the hands of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb
and other terrorist groups.

In 2004 General Searby was appointed Defence Co-ordinator with Libya under an agreement to advise and train members of the Libyan Army at Sandhurst. In 2010 he became the UK Prime Minister's adviser on counterterrorism for North Africa.
