The Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines invites British companies to invest in the Algerian energy sector

The Minister of Energy and Mines Minister Youcef Yousfi, invited British companies to become more involved in investment and partnership in the energy sector in Algeria, said a ministry statement of the Ministry of Energy and Mines on Wednesday.

In a meeting with with the British Minister of State in charge of Energy and Climate Change,. Lord Marland who is visiting Algeria, Mr. Yousfi "invited British companies to become more involved in investment and partnership in the fields of petrochemical, refining and exploration, including offshore, the source said. The talks between the two sides focused on strengthening cooperative relations and partnerships between the two countries in the field of energy, hydrocarbons, renewables and energy efficiency, and training.

 On this occasion, the Minister presented the main lines of the ambitious program of Algerian development of renewable energy and energy efficiency, emphasizing the exchange of expertise and visits between companies of both countries, and local manufacture of specific equipment for the business.

The  British companies BP Global and British Gas ( BG Group) have important operations in Algeria. 

BP is the largest foreign investor in Algeria. It has two world class gas developments: In Salah Gas and In Amenas.
In Salah Gas is one of the largest dry gas joint-venture projects in the country. The venture involves the development of seven proven gas fields in the southern Sahara, 1,200km south of Algiers and has been on-stream since July 2004. It is the world’s first full-scale carbon dioxide capture project at a gas field.

In Amenas is also one of the largest wet gas projects in the country. In Amenas involves the development and production of natural gas and gas liquids from wet gas fields in the Illizi basin of south eastern Algeria.

In addition, BP participates in Rhourde El Baguel (REB), an enhanced oil recovery development 75km east of the Hassi Messaoud oilfield.BP is also involved in exploration in the Bourarhet block, adjacent to In Amenas.

BG Group holds interests in, and is operator of, the Hassi Ba Hamou (HBH) permit and the Guern el Guessa (GEG) permit in partnership with Sonatrach.
