Tangier: 4,957 People Arrested for Alleged Involvement in Criminal Acts on Jan.20-Feb.29, 2020, Police

Rabat - Security operations, carried out by the national police services in all the districts under the prefecture of Tangier between January 20 and February 29, led to the arrest of 4,957 people for their alleged involvement in criminal acts. The National Police (DGSN) said, in a statement on Saturday, that among these arrested people, 2,921 individuals were caught red-handed, while 2,036 were wanted nationwide, including 134 people wanted for involvement in violent crimes.

These large-scale operations helped seize a set of equipment used in the perpetration of these criminal acts, including 218 sharp objects, a firearm, two safes, 19 cartridges and 6 tear gas bottles, as well as quantities of narcotics from criminal operations, said the press release, adding that it includes 2,106 tonnes of chira, 528 grams of cocaine, 179 grams of heroin, 7,321 psychotropic pills, 126 mobile phones, as well as 36 vehicles and two drones. These intensive operations have been reinforced by support measures, both in terms of road safety and regulatory procedures, added the DGSN, indicating that it ensured the proper application of the driving code by drafting reports against 10,594 road users. As for the level of regulatory measures aimed at guaranteeing compliance by public stores and tourist establishments with the laws and regulations in force, 86 infractions were recorded and the laws were applied.
