Mercredi 22 Janvier 2020

Rabat - Head of government, Saad Dine El Otmani, on Monday held a series of meetings and talks with a number of officials and heads of delegations taking part in the UK-Africa 2020 Summit being held in London.

El Otmani was received by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, before meeting British Prime minister, Boris Johnson, as well as British ministers of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and International Cooperation, says Tuesday a statement by the head of government's department.

These meetings were an opportunity to discuss ways of developing bilateral relations, in the wake of Brexit, and to express the Kingdom's willingness to diversify cooperation sectors to encompass the development of knowledge, education and training, the environment, renewable energies, digitization and agriculture, as well as investment and security cooperation, the statement adds.

Morocco also voiced its readiness to use its distinguished position in Africa in the service of the continent and for the benefit of its countries and citizens.

The British side, for its part, praised the pioneering role played by Morocco, its reform efforts, the stability and security it enjoys, as well as the excellent level of the Moroccan model in the management of religious affairs and its contribution to religious supervision in several African countries.

Morocco's participation in the UK-Africa Investment Summit 2020 was an opportunity to strengthen Morocco's leading role on the African continent, particularly as a regional hub of stability and growth.

This participation, the statement notes, has also made it possible to consolidate bilateral relations between Morocco and the United Kingdom.

The British side invited 21 African countries to the summit, which was marked by the holding of several parallel activities in which Morocco took part at high levels, particularly in the education, teaching and investment sectors.

A high-level meeting was organized by the Moroccan employers' association (CGEM) in partnership with the ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, attended by nearly 200 companies from the UK and 120 from Morocco.

Morocco is represented at the summit by a delegation composed of minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun, minister of Industry, Trade and the Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, minister delegate to the minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mohcine Jazouli, Morocco's ambassador in London, Abdeslam Aboudrar, in addition to the heads of a number of Moroccan public and private institutions.
