Morocco began a strategic dialogue with the United States last Thursday, considered the culmination of a centuries-old relationship between the two countries in these times of great challenge security in the Sahel region and the Sahara.
Strategic US dialogue could make Morocco the policeman of the Sahel and Sahara
A French publication specialising in international strategy, Géotribune analysed the situation.

The risk of destabilization facing regions of the Sahara, the Sahel and the whole of North Africa and the Middle East has prompted the United States to establish its security policy in the region with the active cooperation of Morocco as a stable and stabilizing force in this environment.

The Kingdom could therefore become the  beachhead in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel and in the MENA region.

According Géotribune, the trend is to swap U.S. support for the autonomy plan for the Sahara for the Moroccan activated security role across the Sahel-Saharan region, with all that that includes in challenges and dangers.

The other point  which was discussed during the dialogue was the economic component in the regional dimension, Washington would thus benefit from the Moroccan economic activism in sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel, implementing, triangular financial cooperation, with U.S. capital but also their technical cooperation, borrowing the African networks of Morocco, to achieve their goals, promoting the development of these countries in the context of a strategy comprising coupling the fight against extremism with the stabilising of the economy.
