"This is an important and decisive step forward to resolve this conflict and strengthen the understanding between the two countries," said Garcia Infante in a statement to MAP.
"This decision will lay the foundation for a solid and beneficial partnership for both countries on the basis of trust and transparency," added the president of the Hispano-Moroccan Observatory.
Spain's support for Morocco's position on the Sahara dispute is in addition to the statements expressed by several world powers that have given their support to the Kingdom, said Garcia Infante.
"Spain considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for resolving the dispute" over the Moroccan Sahara.
In a Message addressed to HM King Mohammed VI, the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, stressed that he "recognizes the importance of the Sahara issue for Morocco".
As such, "Spain considers the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco in 2007, as the basis, the most serious, realistic and credible, for resolving the dispute".
He also stressed "the serious and credible efforts of Morocco within the framework of the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable solution".
The Spanish government's position stating that the Moroccan autonomy plan remains "the most serious, realistic and credible basis for resolving the dispute" over the Moroccan Sahara, will contribute to the strengthening of the stability and prosperity of the whole region, said, Friday, Jose Garcia Infante, president of the Hispano-Moroccan Observatory for Security and Human Rights.
