Socialist France emerges from a paternalistic to a normalised relationship, with the Morocco

"It is today France, governed by the Socialists, that emerges from a form of paternalism in its relationship with Morocco, to move to relationships that are intense but are more normalised" Khadija Mohsen-Finan chose to comment.

The associate researcher at IRIS noted that increasingly, the economic axis aims to dominate much of the debate between the two countries, although the political and security aspects are candidates for reinvigoration, given the developments in the Sahel and Sahara.

Hollande will be a VRP to Morocco, for the economy of his country, said Mohsen-Finan, given that France "is challenged on the ground by Spain that became last year's leading provider of Morocco, thanks to its refined petroleum products. Which are strong competition from Spain. "

Concerning geopolitical aspects Khadija Mohsen-Finan drew attention to the dangers destabilising North Africa and the Sahel and Sahara zones meaning that France finds itself in need of increased and consolidated security cooperation with Morocco and "France intends to play a role in the rapprochement between Algeria and Morocco, which marks a first step towards building a Maghreb and also a very significant progress in the pacification of the region," she says.

To conclude that "The relationship between Paris and Rabat is in good shape, it is not need improvement but consolidation."
