Security stepped up for oil and gas sites in Tunisia

In Kasserine,in central Tunisia ftwo security personnel were wounded in clashes with suspected jihadists on Monday 28 and Tuesday, 29 January . Special Forces are deployed for three days in the country to secure oil and gas facilities in the large southern area Tunisia and Libya following the In Amenas attack and a subsequent incident in Algeria.

"These are precautionary measures", a  security source told AFP. Several foreign energy companies in Tunisia, like ENI, the Anglo-French Perenco and  the  Austrian  company OMV  are under production sharing agreements with the Tunisian public  sector company ETAP.

These measures are aimed at preventing terrorist attacks targeting Tunisian oil and gas fields, especially those located at the Tunisian-Algerian border, TAP reported.

At the end of December, the Tunisian authorities announced the arrest in the Kasserine area of ​​sixteen men linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).Eight more suspects are still being sought,according to AFP.
