Rabat - The national judicial police brigade, in coordination with the provincial judicial police services in Sale, arrested on Monday, on the basis of precise information provided by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), six extremists for their alleged involvement in provoking fictitious traffic accidents in order to defraud insurance companies and use the money from these criminal acts for financing terrorist projects.

Among the six suspects, aged between 23 and 39, there are four ex-convicts in cases of terrorism and extremism and one in drug trafficking crimes, said a press release from the National Police (DGSN). The suspects were provoking fictitious road accidents, using motorcycles and cars and reporting accident claims to insurance companies to obtain reimbursements under the "Al Faye Wa Al Istihlal" principle, with a view to financing terrorist targets in order to seriously undermine public order, added the same source.

The search operation carried out in the homes of the suspects led to the seizure of a motorbike used in the reported fictitious traffic accidents, of medical certificates and their copies bearing the names of the suspects and others, in addition to copies of the minutes of the accidents, memory cards, computer equipment, extremist publications and 9 psychotropic pills, it said. The suspects were subjected to a judicial investigation carried out by the national judicial police brigade under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office in charge of terrorism cases, with a view to determining all the reported fictitious traffic accidents and the sums of moneys collected through this mode of fraud, as well as the links of these criminal acts with the cases of financing terrorism and planning terrorist acts.
