Sahara Issue: No decision Has Been Taken So Far in Swedish Parliament, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Commission
Stockholm - Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Swedish Parliament, Kenneth G. Forslund (the ruling Social Democratic Party), said his country "is not currently on the point of taking a position in one direction or another" about the Sahara, voicing his surprise about the turn taken by this issue.

"Why this occurs precisely now is a question that we simply do not understand", he told MAP following a meeting, Tuesday, between members of this committee and the Moroccan delegation of left parties, on a visit to Stockholm.
Asked to clarify once and for all if the parliament will or will not take any decision regarding the Sahara issue, he simply said: "A decision on recognition falls within the framework of the powers of the government. It (the government) is not in a position yet to make a decision in one way or another before the spring of next year".
"I doubt it could be taken even at this time as there will be a need for a process of political dialogue after the completion of such evaluation work", he added.
"I do not think we will see an end to this discussion at least in the short term," the deputy of the Social Democratic Party in power since 2014 underlined.
He added: "We support the UN peace process and the work of UN Envoy, Christopher Ross. Of course, we want to see a peaceful solution to this dispute which has lasted for a long time and I think, to be honest, it will still last for a while.
