Rabat - Minister of Interior and Minister Delegate held, on Thursday, a remote meeting with the Walis, governors and presidents of the elected Councils of the regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and Guelmim-Oued Noun.
The meeting was dedicated to the recent developments in the Kingdom's territorial integrity issue, including the historic decision of the United States to recognize the Kingdom's sovereignty over the entire Sahara and to open a consulate in the city of Dakhla to help support investment and development projects in the region.

This meeting was also an opportunity to examine the progress of the projects planned as part of the new model of development for the Southern Provinces, a statement from the Ministry of Interior said.

During this meeting, the Minister of Interior expressed the solicitude of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for His faithful subjects in the Southern Provinces, who have, since the dawn of Morocco's history, expressed their unwavering commitment to the Glorious Alaouite Throne.

Laftit also extended warm regards to the inhabitants of the Southern Provinces, to all the Chioukhs of the tribes and to the elected officials of these beloved provinces, who have stayed united around the symbols of the Kingdom and its territorial integrity, and who have stressed, at every step, their attachment to the constants of the Kingdom and their sincere patriotism.

For their part, presidents of the elected councils praised, in their remarks, the relevance of Morocco's strategic choices under the wise leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, while expressing their keenness to contribute, each from his position, to the success of this phase, the statement added.

In full awareness of the constraints of the economic situation and the need to tackle the new reality within a new approach based on global development as a strategic priority (...), it was stressed that the State is determined to move forward in the implementation of a promising development model through the 2016-2021 development program for the Southern Provinces, which has become a tangible reality, according to the same source said.

The cost of the projects completed or in progress amounts to 60 billion dirhams, which is about 80% of the total budget allotted to this development program, the ministry concluded
