Jeudi 24 Décembre 2020

Brussels - The restoration of relations between Morocco and Israel is a step in the right direction in the service of peace and understanding between peoples, said, Thursday, Philippe Blondin, President of the Jewish Museum of Belgium. "I am extremely happy to hear this good news which makes us all happy in this end of the year," Blondin said in a statement to MAP. He highlighted the ties that unite Jews in Morocco, dating back to centuries, as well as the shared history and culture.

Blondin recalled in this context the heroic gesture of the late HM Mohammed V who opposed the introduction of anti-Jewish laws during the Vichy regime and refused to hand over the list of Moroccan citizens of Jewish faith to the Marshal Pétain. He also highlighted the vision of moderate Islam advocated by HM King Mohammed VI, which established the roots of coexistence and tolerance that distinguish Morocco from other countries. The president of the Jewish Museum of Belgium also underlined the enormous potential for cultural cooperation between Morocco and Israel in view of the common history that unites Moroccans of Jewish and Muslim faith.
