The probable involvement of Al Qaeda in the assassination of the U.S. ambassador to Libya in Benghazi is said to be the main motivation of this new measure.
Report: USA has formed a special task force to hunt AQIM in North Africa
The Pentagon has set up combat units for special operations dedicated to hunting Islamist AQIM throughout North Africa. A unit of US navy seals was used in the killing of Osama Bin Laden in May 2011.

According to U.S. media reports citing WND intelligence published by Geostrategy-Direct, the Maghreb and the Middle East now join the area of the Persian Gulf, as a new priority for U.S. military operations.

It will focus on surgical operations carried out by special forces in the fight against violent Islamist movements, scattered across entire North Africa region including Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and the Sahel and the Great Sahara.

The death of the U.S. ambassador  Christopher Stevens in Benghazi, after the release of the anti-Islamic film on You Tube "Innocence of Muslims", was blamed by U.S. investigators on AQIM, causing trouble for the Obama
administration in an election year. He is being attacked on his foreign policy and  blamed for security failures  by rival Republican Mitt Romney.

In fact, Obama's policy  in the region, favoured the disengagement of US forces and the withdrawal of  United States armed forces from  Iraq and Afghanistan. The pressure of the presidential election may well influence the deployment of the task force
