Regional Conference on border security Tripoli

A ministerial regional conference on border security opened on Sunday in Tripoli with the participation of a Moroccan delegation led by Interior Minister Mohand Laenser. He is accompanied by Minister Delegate to the Head of Government Head of Government in Charge of National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi.

The event aims to examine security arrangements for common borders, as dilemmas of smuggling and human trafficking remain unresolved since the collapse of Muammar Gaddafi regime.

The conference is attended by Ministers as well as senior officials of the defence and interior ministries of Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Sudan, along with security experts from each country.

Speaking at the opening of the regional ministerial conference on border security, Interior Minister Mohand Laenser said that this comprehensive approach should take into account the development challenges in the countries of the region, noting that economic development is a sine qua non for social stability and security, MAP reports.

The Minister said the conference is held at a time the region faces security challenges relating to organized crime and terrorism. In this respect, he noted that terrorist organizations are taking advantage of the situation to proliferate their acts using illegal finance means such as drug and human trafficking.

Laenser stressed that facing the threats to stability in the region requires the adoption of a comprehensive approach which put emphasis on the humanitarian dimension.
