Prosecutor General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud refuses to stand down.

110 people were reported injured on Friday as supporters and opponents of Mr Mursi fought in Tahrir Square over President Mohamed Morsi's attempt to remove Prosecutor General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud by appointing him as ambassador to the Vatican.

The worst riots for sometime erupted in Tahrir Square between supporters of the  President from the Muslim Brotherhood and supporters of the Prosecutor General. It turned into a wider protest against President Morsi by the group " Accountability Friday" which is protesting against the draft consitution which they see as to slanted towards the islamic fundamentalists. It was the first substantial protest against  Presient Morsi himself.

The President's move against the Prosecutor General came after the dismissal of charges against 24 accuse of arranging a countrattack by men riding camels in Tahrir Square against protestors prior to the overthrow of the former president Hosni Mubarak. There were protests by many who saw this as a manifestation of the old regime as the Prosecutor General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud served under former president Hosni Mubarak.

He returned to work to day defying President Morsi and affirming his independence and the independence of other judges from judicial interference by government bodies and went against the constitutionalprinciple of the separation of powers. President Morsi has clashed with the judiciary before when he tried to reinstate the parliament dominated by islamists after the judiciary had suspended it .

President Morsi hasnow agreed that the Prosecutor  General can keep his job, according to the BBC.
