President of AU, Boni Yayi: send an African force under UN auspices to Mali

 He  spoke of sending an "African force that operates with the support of  the United Nations".The Head of State of Benin and President of the African Union (AU), Thomas Boni Yayi responded positively to the call  on Tuesday by French President Francois Hollande, at a press conference on Wednesday, May 30 at Paris. "We propose that the AU strengthen its position as the AU Peace and Security (AU)  and may seek the support of the Security Council of the UN" on the situation in Mali.

The French president had the desired effect Tuesday that African institutions contact "as soon as possible (...)

Citing "the example of Somalia," Boni Yayi has talked of sending an "African force operating with the support of the United Nations." "We can go in that direction," he said.
