President Bouteflika refuses to ignore the scandals of the management of Sonatrach

President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, said on Saturday that he could not "ignore" the scandals affecting the management of the national hydrocarbons company Sonatrach, while reiterating his confidence in the justice system to locate responsibility and punish the guilty.

"I can not ignore the scandals recently identified by the press concerning the management of Sonatrach," said the President in a message to the Secretary General of the Trade Union association UGTA, Abdelmajid Sidi Said, and  the Algerian workers on the occasion of the celebration of the double anniversary of the establishment of the General Union of Algerian Workers and the nationalisation of hydrocarbons.

The Head of State noted that this information "raises our rebellion and our disapproval, but I trust in the justice of our country to clarify the web of this information to locate and apply responsibilities with thoroughness and firmness sanctioned under our legislation. "

The Attorney General at the Court of Algiers, Belkacem Zeghmati, had stated before, a judicial inquiry in the context of the case "Sonatrach 2" had already been opened.

Facts disclosed by some national and foreign media are "in connection with the judicial  process already open with the  specialised criminal division  at Sidi M'hamed (Algiers) as part of the case known Sonatrach 2", said in a statement signed by the Attorney General.

For its part, the Minister of Energy and Mines Youcef Yousfi announced last Wednesday that the necessary measures will be taken on this matter once the work  is completed and the judiciary confirms that the case .

He said that  "very strong" instructions were given by the authorities and businesses "to defend their interests and to prosecute any person who may have acted contrary to the interests of our companies."

" The Justice is currently investigating. (...) We will take action when the court finishes its work and that such cases are confirmed and proven," he had said. "We will fight corruption with greater determination. We will be inflexible in that area," stressed the minister.

The Algerian  national press have published reports of "the involvement of Algerian personalities made in criminal and corruption specifically in the exercise of their functions within the institutions of the state."
