The new port of Safiis a major project that will strengthen infrastructure dedicated to domestic shipping, is part of the national ports strategy in 2030 which assigns targets for the recovery of the comparative advantages of Morocco , strengthening the economic attractiveness of the Kingdom and the conquest of a part of the international seaborne trade market between the Mediterranean, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

This flagship project is also likely to strengthen the dynamic economic development of the region and give a new impetus to the urban renewal of the city of Safi in favour of the conversion of the port of Safi City into a commercial and cruise port .

The environmental situation has been taken into account in the design of this project, several measures have been implemented to mitigate and compensate for the negative impacts associated with the construction and operation of the future port of Safi and this, with the advantage of inserting work in its immediate environment.

It is thus envisaged the creation of a new beach lying to the north of the new port, which will be a recreation area for surfers and protect the terraced cliff.

In addition, moving the trafficking activities of phosphates and derivatives to the new port, in its second phase - will contribute to improved environmental, health and safety part of the city of Safi. The port project is accompanied in Safi with further structuring developments for the city and the adjoining regions, including the region of Marrakech which will now have an important link to the sea.

Located 15 km south of Safi, the future port, which will be implemented in three phases, the first mobilising an investment of 4 billion dirhams, will support the energy sector and the chemical industry in the region and contribute to the development of large bulk transport-related energy and mineral industry.

It will also meet the supply needs of the new coal power plant of the National Office for Water and electricity (ONEE), both in the first and in the second phase, as it will provide a large and expandable port capacity to meet future needs for import and export traffic of OCP and other traffic, in a third phase.

Indeed, the first phase of the new port, which will be ready in late August 2017, will meet the needs of the new ONEE thermal power plant , estimated at 3.5 million tonnes of coal per year.

Real catalyst for the launch of multiple projects in the region, this new project will generate over 750 direct jobs during the construction phase and 180 during the operational phase. As for the new integrated Safi (Safi Phosphate Hub SPH) industrial site, it will, like Jorf Phosphate Hub (JPH), contributing to the revitalisation of the central axis of phosphates in Morocco which includes mines at Benguerir and Youssoufia (Gantour).

With a budget of around 30 billion dirhams, Safi Phosphate Hub will gradually accommodate all the activities of the current complex OCP Safi with the opportunity to develop production capacity and create new lines for specific and innovative products.

Spread over an area of 1,300 hectares, the future platform will be designed to enhance the special qualities of the phosphate deposit at Gantour, at first, and operated that day Meskala in the region of Essaouira non-deposit in a second time.

Located opposite the new port of Safi, the new site will be based on the future port structure for dealing with export / import flows of materials related to the development of this new platform.

Once "SPH" is operational, the current complex OCP Safi will be renovated into a true science park. Indeed, the current site will house an industrial area for the Group's partners and a training center for employees.

True to its social and civic engagement, OCP continues this way to contribute to the national education of future generations through the institute for socio-educational development (IPSE) intended primarily for children of employees of the Group .

A Safi, IPSE has already opened two (primary preschool) schools with a capacity of more than 1,600 students and plans to build a college that will allow the registration of 540 students.

Moreover, in the context of improving the conditions of schooling in rural areas and the fight against school drop out, several actions have been undertaken by the OCP in the Safi region, paying special attention to improving conditions of enrollment and student transportation in rural areas.

To this end, OCP began construction of sanitary facilities in 45 rural schools and rehabilitation of school Sidi Said Ajana in the adjacent urban area bordering the current OCP Safi complex.
