Rabat - Speaker of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, stressed Monday in Rabat that parliamentary diplomacy is well placed to play an important role in consolidating relations between Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

According to a statement by the House of Representatives, El Malki said during talks with Chairman of the Saudi Shura Council, Abdullah Ibn Muhammad Al Ash-Sheikh, that parliamentary diplomacy would provide a real impetus for relations between Arab countries and restore confidence among them to face the challenges of the 21st century.

During the meeting, El Malki commended the good level of relations between the two legislative institutions and the regular visits of parliamentarians from both countries, as well as the distinguished relations between the two Kingdoms, based on mutual respect and sincere fraternity.

El Malki also highlighted Saudi Arabia's position in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its perpetual solidarity.

"We thank you for the frank and permanent support both at the regional and international levels for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and for your support for the autonomy initiative as a final solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara," he said, calling for the strengthening of economic and commercial exchanges between the two countries, given the vast opportunities for cooperation.

For his part, Al Ash-Sheikh stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two Kingdoms. "Relations between the two Kingdoms are rooted at all levels and we are working to further develop them," he said.
