There was broad ageement that moderate islamic governments should be helped and encouraged to reject extremism. President Obama rejected Governor Romney's confrontational approach on the US's relations with the islamic world. He said that Libyawas liberated from the Gaddafi at a cost of two weeks of what was spent on the Iraq conflict. He rejected Governor Romney's assertion that the US should still have troops in Iraq and accused him of inconsistancy in his statements. The debate touched on Libya,Mali,Syria and Iran. the  President mentioned US support for Israel on more than one occasion.

Both candidates agreed that Al Qaeda was still a threat to America and the world.Obama displayed the experience of a commander-in-chief in explaining U.S. policy under his leadership and attacking the views and proposals of Govrnor Romney, how has  less experience on international issues. Analysts and commentators agreed that the president won the debate but predicting its effect on the presidential election was less easy, where economic issues are likely to be the main concern of electors.
