November 11th, Moroccan Jews celebrate Hitler Purim
When Adolf Hitler and his mighty Wehrmacht crushed the French army in 1940 and paraded in conquered Paris, Nazi Germany inherited the French colonial empire, including the Moroccan protectorate.

The French Vichy government actively collaborated with the Reich and arrested Jews in France for deportation to extermination camps in the east such as Auchwitz and Dachau.

The U.S. invasion of Morocco, caused the fall of the Vichy occupying power .This saved Jews in Morocco from the same fate their fellow Europeans.

To celebrate their salvation, Moroccan Jews initiated a feast in memory of the fall of the Vichy regime in Morocco.

This feast day is called Hitler Purim, the Jewish community of Morocco, requested a' Megillat Hitler, which was inspired by the writings of the Book of Esther, describing their rescue  as a 'miracle' for the Jewish people similar to a massacre in the history of the Persian Empire.

The Jews believed that the U.S. intervention in Morocco was a miracle that saved them from the hands of Nazi Germany and the Vichy administration who were sending Jews to extermination camps.

The Megillah of Hitler was written in Hebrew and exhibited in Washington, DC  at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The Moroccan Jewish community were also grateful to the late King Mohammed V, who withstood the pressures from  Vichy France and refused to deliver the Moroccan Jews for deportation.
