In an editorial the Libya Herald points t-(o the desecration of Sufi Shrines which alerted Libyans to the danegr of Salafists and the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi which shocked the world. I observes that both incidents showed the government's inability to react apart from verbal expressions of condemnation.

Although National Congress Speaker Mohamed Magarief condemned the killing of Ambassador Chris Stevens, together with three of his colleagues, on the 11th anniversary of the 11 September attacks in New York and Washington DC, he had little to offer as regards concrete action against the attackers.


 It says that diplomats have spoken of the catastrophic results for Libya's reputation which is likely to affect foreign investment in the country.Libyans and the  international community want to seea committed government effort to disarm the militias, root out the security problem and deal with the offendors. The paper says that it is likely that events which have included attacks on the red cross and the British Ambassador's convoy in Benghazi as well as the US Consulate with the knowledge of some of Libya's security services. It says that the perpatrators represent only a fraction of the Libyan people. There has also been an ongoing campaign of targetted asassinations. No one has so far been arrested (although AFP reports that 4 have been arrested for the US Consulate attack.)

The editorial concludes that "without security society collapses'. it calls on the new Prime Minister Mustafa Abu Shagur to make tackling the security problem his absolute priority which he has promised to do.the outgoing NTC government failed to deal with the problem . The Libyan people will not forgive its successor if it fails as well,the Libya Herald concludes.
