"We call upon your honorable board to set up the means and monitoring mechanisms to stop the diversion of aid by the Polisario," said the Swedish activist of human rights, Alhir Kodra , at the UNHRC plenary session in Geneva.

Mrs. Kodra also drew the attention of the UN body on the "regrettable exploitation of suffering of people, primarily women and children, for purposes of personal enrichment." Sadly, a very small part of the aid reaches the intended recipients", she said. The EU had already conditioned the releasing of the humanitarian aid to the Tindouf camps by the deployment of international observers in the area to prevent any misuse or mismanagement of funds.

Similarly, UN bodies, including UNHCR, have always faced a categorical rejection by the Algerian authorities to any request of the census of populations.
