Mustapha El Khalfi: Distortion of MINURSO's mandate is "incomprehensible" and "unjustified"
Lemag: The government spokesman and Communications Minister Mustapha El Khalfi, Called on Monday 'incomprehensible' and 'unwarranted' the attempt to distort the mandate of MINURSO, under the bias of this kind of approach unilaterally and without consultation.

El Khalfi, who was the guest of the evening news television channel Al Oula, statedt that "this attempt to broaden the skills of MINURSO to include human rights, comes at a time When Morocco has accumulated significant achievements in the field."
"This approach constitutes a danger to our national cause and is an unjustified attack against Morocco's sovereignty " he added, saying that such an "approach is a political reward for other parties who have not responded favourably to the the resolutions of the Security Council."
"Such an attempt can only disrupt the political process of negotiations, noting that Morocco has called for years to find a political solution which is negotiated, fair and equitable to the conflict, in a spirit of realism and understanding between all parties" the Minister added.
"Imposing a unilateral approach to denature the MINURSO mandate represents a break with the logic of negotiations for a political solution," he said, insisting that such a move "can only encourage maneouvers by enemies of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, who continue to exploit the issue of human rights to justify their non-membership in a serious process of negotiations. "
El Khalfi also recalled that MINURSO was established on the basis of an agreement in accordance with Chapter VI of the UN Charter, which sets out the consensus peaceful settlement of conflicts.
Morocco has undertaken several initiatives in accordance with the "Paris Principles relating to the status of national institutions for human rights," he said, noting that "the opening of Morocco on UN mechanisms, should not have take place without the knowledge gained by the Kingdom for years in the promotion of human rights. "
