Morocco has a "limited availability of water resources" and faces significant challenges in this regard, notes the report, adding that the amount of water that can be technically and economically exploitable, reached 80 per cent of the resources currently available. Most of the problems related to managing this vital resource concern the waste of freshwater resources and the discharge of untreated wastewater, said the report which estimates the loss of water at 35 pc on average.

Appropriate technologies and concepts of sustainability, to create wastewater treatment units and treatment units capable of covering resources, and minimize operating costs are hailed by the ECE, which calls for more sustainable wastewater treatment and resource recovery strategies.
