Regarding terrorist threats in the Sahel-Saharan region, Morocco adopted a comprehensive security approach which encompasses preventive aspects, cooperation and commitment to fight terrorism internationally and regionally, Drais said.

This approach was mirrored, since 2002, in the dismantling of 124 terrorist cells and 276 dangerous groups, and the seizing of an important quantity of weapons, according to figures provided by the Interior Ministry.

Drais recalled Morocco's action to spread the values of a tolerant Islam to counter extremism thinking through the training of Malian and Senegalese Imams (religious leaders).

Lauding the results of the Morocco-USA strategic partnership, mainly in the political, security, economic and cultural fields, the official hailed the level of coordination between the two countries to combat terrorism, notably within the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF).

During this meeting, Drais also discussed the in-depth reforms introduced in Morocco to build a modernist and progressive social model, based on the consolidation of democratic values, the respect for human rights and liberties, and the improvement of socio-economic indicators. He also highlighted Morocco's new migration policy, an initiative that enabled the Kingdom to become a host country for refugees and migrants from sub-Saharan Africa. Drais also recalled Morocco's anti-poverty initiative INDH which is based on integrated public policies.
