London - Morocco's counterterrorism efforts and training of imams (religious leaders) were showcased on Wednesday during a meeting at the UK's parliament between Moroccan and British MPs.

The meeting, organized on the occasion of the working visit by a parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the house of representatives Rachid Talbi Alami to England, enabled the delegation members to outline the Moroccan strategy to fight terrorism and religious extremism which threaten regional and international security. 

They recalled the draft bill that was recently adopted by the lower house incriminating joining terrorist groups, defending terrorism and incitement to terrorism as well as undergoing training in Morocco or abroad.

They also underlined the importance of the Moroccan experience in training imams according to the Malekite rite which calls for an Islam of moderation.

For his part, Labor deputy Mike Gapes said that the meeting was an opportunity to share viewpoints on several issues of shared interest as economic relations, terrorism, security, immigration and drug, human and arm trafficking.
