This loan is intended to finance 85 % of the overall construction cost (3 billion dirhams) of the new 318-megawatt power plant, ONEE said in a statement.

The plant, which is expected to start operating in the 4th quarter of 2017, will be built using technologies enabling it to meet international environmental standards, the office added.

This project is part of ONEE's equipment plan meant to meet domestic power consumption and rapid growth in electricity demand, according to the same source.

It will also have strong positive impacts on economic and social development in the region namely through the creation of new jobs and subcontracting opportunities for local businesses, ONEE indicated.
