Rabat - Morocco on Thursday reiterated its firm position on the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, a statement by the Moroccan Royal Cabinet said. Moroccan King Mohammed VI reiterated the position during a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in which he informed him about his country's decision to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.

The new arrangements will not affect Morocco's firm commitment to the defense of the just Palestinian cause, said King Mohammed VI. He stressed that his country will never renounce its role in the defense of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. Morocco will take advantage of all the new arrangements to promote peace in the region, the statement said, adding that negotiations between both Palestinian and Israeli parties remain "the only way to reach a final, lasting and comprehensive settlement of this conflict."
